Matthew Mendoza aka Barber Doza focuses on empowering barbers by sharing practical tips to level up your business.

Like many barber origin stories, I gave my first haircut to my big brother at home. During college, I continued cutting in Cal Poly’s freshman dorms. I always gravitated towards the barbershop, always in search of the best shop experience.

While living in Europe, I visited barber shops, always looking for experiences to inspire my future career. When the timing was right, I finally went to barber college and got my license.

After working in the barbershop, I began reflecting upon my education and acknowledged a long list of topics I wished someone had talked to me about. This was the start of my teaching journey. With a focus on teaching students how to pass the barber exam, I started consulting barber colleges and students towards best study practices.

The pandemic caused a pivot away from the chair and into the business of barbering as a consultant for one of the biggest barber booking platforms. Crossing paths with some of the biggest names and brands in barbering, I was inspired to finally start sharing my perspective. A vision that was once cloudy, is finally starting to find clarity.

I offer an online course, teach workshops, write blog posts, host a podcast, share YouTube content, consult barbershop owners and still cut hair. I’m on a quest to experience everything I possible can…with a barber license. My mission is to enable barbers with the business skills necessary to achieve their dreams.
